People in Winnipeg see problems happening downtown and on buses. But they also see that busy community centers help a lot. Now, they want to know who is actually out there doing the hard work to fix things.
Winnipeg families deserve a safe neighbourhood. We need neighbourhood action teams to fix lights, clear ice, and patch sidewalks quickly, before they become hazards, Community Safety Officers to keep transit and public spaces safe, and library and recreation staff youth workers running programs at the hours kids are actually out, to keep kids busy and out of trouble.
People want safety they can actually see. I am calling on candidates to promise to protect and expand the neighbourhood action teams, Community Safety Officers, and neighbourhood recreation options that have made our streets cleaner and neighbourhoods more livable.
The Local Guarantee asks candidates to send to fix the hazards on our streets. Tell the mayor, council, and municipal election candidates to commit to hiring people on the ground.
CUPE Local 500 launched the Local Guarantee to bring forward a package deal for Winnipeg: safe water, reliable public services, community safety, and local jobs. These are the real issues in this year’s municipal election.
