STOP THE AMERICANIZATION THAT SENDS OUR MONEY OUT OF TOWN

Local workers should get the work we pay for.

If it’s a City job, it shouldn’t fund an American millionaire’s yacht (for example). We need jobs to be good, public, and local.

People are frustrated by how garbage and recycling were handled. Big contracts went to an outside firm like GFL. Food services in public facilities are tied up with American companies like Aramark instead of local alternatives. The Result: money leaving the city - often to American owners who are buying mega yachts with Winnipeg tax dollars.

We can’t let that happen.

Local workers can do this work. We should avoid paying someone else’s shareholders.

The Local Guarantee pushes for bringing work back in-house when these contracts expire. Commit to eliminating American contracts and sourcing locally.  Tell the mayor, council, and municipal election candidates to commit to hiring people locally and not letting our dollars leave.

WINNIPEG LOCAL GUARANTEE:
We are not just asking for this one fix.

CUPE Local 500 launched the Local Guarantee to bring forward a package deal for Winnipeg: safe water, reliable public services, community safety, and local jobs. These are the real issues in this year’s municipal election.

CUPE Local 500 representing over 5,000 members dedicated to public services, including Winnipeg city workers.
